Vorénia Horizon is a private retreat in South Crete, shaped by generations of family history and a deep connection to the land. Surrounded by nature and overlooking the sea, it brings together the character of a traditional Cretan metochi with the comfort of a contemporary villa, offering privacy, generous outdoor living and a setting made for slowing down and spending time together.
The Villa
Vorénia Horizon is made up of two stone buildings that share the same grounds. The main house holds the living room with its fireplace, the fully equipped kitchen and dining table, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Beside it, an independent suite has its own bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette, and opens straight onto a private terrace. Between the two lie the pool, the covered BBQ, the shaded outdoor table and the stone terraces that hold the whole place together.
Location
Vorénia Horizon stands high in the mountains above Kastri Viannou, on the southern side of Crete, surrounded by olive groves and open hillside with the Libyan Sea below. The nearest villages are about 2.5 km down the road, the coast at Keratokambos and Kastri a few kilometres further, and the last stretch of the drive is a dirt road, part of the reason the place stays as quiet as it does.
The Story Behind
Long before the name Vorénia, there was a small metochi high on this slope. My great-grandfather built it by hand-stone walls, a roof of cane, nothing more than he needed. His own house stood ten kilometres down the mountain, so this is where he stayed when he came up for the sheep, the land and the olives.
His grandchildren grew up around it, my father among them. In 2005 he built a new metochi on the same idea: a little larger, a little easier, the same thought behind it. For fifteen years it was simply ours, long tables, weddings, christenings, ordinary Sundays.
The name is older than all of it. His grandfather called this stretch of mountain Vornós Gialós, for the north wind and the sea in winter and the hard sun in summer. In 2020 we began the work that turned it into Vorénia.

Most of a stay at Vorénia Horizon happens on the property itself around the pool, the covered BBQ and the long outdoor table under the shade. Beyond the gate the mountain opens into gorges, olive groves and walking routes, with small villages and the beaches of the south coast within driving distance.
